Age of Mass Mobility

(Air transport in the U. S. is more cyclical than any other form of public transportation, but despite the current prosperity of the industry, a number of risks-some of which are outside industry’s control-remain perplexing problems. E. H. (Tex) Boullioun, president of the Boeing Commercial Airplane Co., recently outlined some of them at a World Aerospace Conference sponsored by the Financial Times of London in that city-Ed.

General Accounting Office’s draft report on the five-nation USAF/General Dynamics F-16 multinational fighter will be shown to the European national participants for comment this fall before final publication in November to prevent recurrence of ruffled feathers by the European participants after the GAO failed to submit drafts of other reports during the last two years.

Sale Limit Squeeze Difficulty of staying within the Carter Administration’s $8.6-billion foreign arms sales limit for Fiscal 1978 is shown by Keystone Kops maneuvers in sales to Iran. Fiscal 1978 sales are being pushed into the Fiscal 1979 and 1980 quotas to avoid breaking the 1978 ceiling, making it more difficult to stay within limits imposed for future years. State Dept, officials admit “It’s a difficult process” to decide how much should be sold to what country.

Radar Map Presentation Planned

St, Louis-Jet Electronics & Technology and RCA Avionics Systems plan to complete development later this year of a system interfacing Jet Electronics’ DAC-2000 R-Nav system with RCA’s Primus 400 color radar. The system, which could be in production early next year, is designed to provide the business aircraft pilot with a map presentation on his radar screen of the aircraft’s position in relation to his track over the ground.

General Aviation Deliveries Hit Peak

St. Louis-Sales activity of new aircraft programs here at the National Business Aircraft Assn, convention followed last month’s trend, which saw the highest number of general aviation aircraft deliveries in the industry’s history. Describing this year’s NBAA convention, one company president said: “The convention carries with it the same optimism that is being seen in aircraft sales.
