Usaf Awards Multiyear Contract in Navstar Buy

Los Angeles—Award of a $1.17-billion multiyear contract for production of 28 Navstar global positioning system (GPS) satellites is expected to result in a savings of more than $200 million for acquisition of the spacecraft and about 1.5 years in the production schedule, compared with funding assembly of the same number of vehicles through annual procurement cycles, according to U. S. Air Force officials.

Usaf Plans Development of Jam-resistant Radio

Washington—The Air Force will develop a new jammer-resistant voice communications radio for air-to-air and air-to-ground use that can shift to an entirely different frequency band during combat for added security. The program recently was approved by Defense Secretary Caspar W. Weinberger.
