More fighting in Iran is a reminder of how fragile the supply of imported oil is for the U. S. The military, which would have a priority claim on domestic oil in case of war, is facing a price pinch in peacetime even with Iranian crude back partly on stream.

Washington—MX intercontinental ballistic missile mobile basing scheme flexibility is such that the proposed 4,600 shelters could be more than doubled if the Strategic Arms Limitation Treaty 2 is not ratified or if the Soviet Union expands its ICBM arsenal, with or without a treaty, the Defense Dept, said last week.

Pioneer's Brush with Disaster Detailed

Moffett Field, Calif. —Pioneer 11, now speeding through interplanetary space toward infinity, barely averted disaster two weeks ago as it closed toward its point of closest approach to the ringed planet Saturn. The rich harvest of data from the Pioneer Saturn flyby could have been cut short by a collision with a sizable but unseen and uncharted body about 23 min. after the spacecraft’s inbound crossing of the Saturn ring plane.

Administration Backs Shuttle Fund Rise
