China is developing a new longrange bomber, an air force commander confirms. Details are scarce, but the aircraft’s range is likely to exceed that of the H-6K’s 6,000 km (3,700 mi.) for combat missions (page 24). Hindustan Aeronautics (HAL) flew its Light Utility Helicopter (LUH) for the first time on Sept. 6, in Bengalaru.

London The Turkish air force is engaged in an uphill struggle to rebuild following the July 15 failed coup against the government of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. Hundreds of air force officers were detained or purged from the ranks over their apparent role in the putsch, allegedly led by former air force commander Gen. Akin Ozturk and spearheaded from Akinci air base near Ankara.
