PASADENA, CALIF The Galileo spacecraft's accidental discovery of a satellite near the asteroid Ida has given the first solid evidence of such a pairing, and will provide powerful new data on asteroid characteristics. Multiple sightings of the 1.5-km.-size "Ida-2" satellite, which are being transmitted through June, should determine its orbit.
