WASHINGTON The Justice Dept.’s “111 Wind” probe into fraud and corruption in defense contracting netted its highest-ranking government official to date, opening the door to the next phase, which will center on corporate officials. Melvyn R. Paisley, Navy assistant secretary for research, engineering and systems from 1981 to 1987, pleaded guilty on June 14 to three felony counts of bribery, fraud and conversion of sensitive information.

WASHINGTON The U. S. Army has updated its aviation modernization plan to accommodate cutbacks from earlier goals while preserving decisions during the 1990s on advanced utility, attack and cargo helicopters. The plan, reflecting Pentagon-wide budget and force structure reductions imposed during the past two years, will be put through a more elaborate cycle of revisions next year.

Learjet Model 60 Initial Flight Testing To Focus on PW305 Engine Performance

WASHINGTON Initial flight testing of Leaijet’s prototype Model 60 business jet will center on analyzing performance of its Pratt & Whitney Canada/MTU PW305 engines before major expansion of the flight test envelope begins. The aircraft made its first flight powered by the new engines earlier this month from Wichita (Kan.) Mid-Continent Airport, operated by chief engineering flight test pilot Peter T. Reynolds and senior flight test engineer John J. Plunkett.
