Robert B. Hotz relinquished the editorial and publishing reins of this magazine last week after 31 years of breathing fire at the nincompoops and snake-oil salesmen who persistently infiltrate government, and at the same time, he was evangelizing industry to spread its technological wings ever farther.

Washington—Initial operational capability of the ground-launched cruise missile has slipped a year to May, 1983, partly due to disagreement among North Atlantic Treaty Organization countries on how best to improve forces, Air Force Maj. Gen. Kelly Burke has told the Senate Armed Services Committee.

Belgium Selects F-16 ECM System

Brussels—Belgian government last week adopted the Loral Rapport electronic countermeasures system as standard equipment on the General Dynamics F-16 fighter. The decision calls for the ECM system to be installed in all Belgian production F-16s coming off the Sabca/Sonoca assembly lines at Gosselies, as part of the five nation aircraft program (AW&ST Dec. 20, 1976, p. 35).

Hustler Trainer Derivative Planned

Van Nuys, Calif.—Gulfstream American Corp. has begun construction here of a two-place military jet trainer derivative of its Hustler 500 business aircraft, with a first flight scheduled for the trainer in early 1980. Components of the trainer aircraft, designated the Peregrine 600, are being fabricated in the same tooling used for the Hustler because of the strong commonality between the two aircraft.
